Cefuroxime is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria. These include:
pharyngitis (sore throat), otitis media (middle ear inflammation), sinusitis (sinus infection) ,bronchitis urinary tract infections (UTIs), gonorrhea Lyme disease impetigo (an infection of the skin).Cefuroxime belongs to a group of drugs called cephalosporins. These drugs are often used to treat similar conditions. Cefuroxime works by interfering with the formation of bacteria cell walls. This causes the cell walls to rupture (break). This results in the death of the bacteria.
